New England Patriots are definitely a team that no one can take lightly. They have had great success recently, but things have been up and down for them like any other team. Let’s look at some of the ups and downs of this franchise team has experienced over the years.
professional football arrived in New England in 1959. The game was played the first season at Boston University and the field more than 21,000 fans saw the Boston Patriots lose against the Denver Broncos 13-10 on 1 April 1960. The 1963 season saw the Patriots go to Fenway Park for home games, they won their first division crown with a record of 7-6-1. Even with this beautiful season, they still lost the title game of the AFL for the San Diego Chargers. Many stars came during this season include: Gino Cappelletti, Jim Nance, Babe Grill, Nick Buoniconti, and Houston Antwine.
In 1970, after ten year career in various areas of home games, the Patriots made Foxborough their new home. In 1971, the team was renamed the New England Patriots’ former name Boston Patriots. The Patriots won their first game at new stadium by beating the New York Giants. In 1976, the Patriots won the berth for the wild card but lost against the future Super Bowl Champion Oakland Raiders. In 1978, the Patriots won their first division title in their history, but lost to the Houston Oilers in the first home game of the franchise in the playoffs. There were some incredible players in the 70s, some of which were: John Hannah, Mike Haynes and Russ Francis.
In 1985, the Patriots won the dock wildcard in the playoffs and eventually beat the Jets. Also defeated the Los Angeles Raiders and Miami Dolphins win their first AFC Championship and made it to the Super Bowl XX. Unfortunately, the Patriots at the Chicago Bears lost the Super Bowl. In 1995, Robert K. Kraft became owner fourth and made significant changes in the franchise. The Patriots finished the season with a seven game winning streak and qualified for the playoffs the first time since 1985.
In 1996, the Patriots won the AFC championship and returned to the Super Bowl for the second time in team history. The Patriots were finally defeated by the Green Bay Packers in Super Bowl XXXI, 35-21. In 1997, the Patriots again won the AFC East division that made the first time in team history to win two division titles back-to-back.
br>> A new era in Patriot history began in 2002 when the team got its new stadium. Once again Bill Belichick, the Patriots have been modeled in one of the elite teams in the NFL. In the space of four years from 2001-2004, the team won three Super Bowl titles in four seasons. The Patriots joined the Dallas Cowboys as the only team to win three Super Bowls in a four-year period and became the seventh franchise to win back-to-back Super Bowls. Performance of New England from 2003-2004 was the most successful race two years in NFL history with 34 victories established a record of the NFL’s all-time. P>
